Sarson Ka Saag, Dahl, and Makki Di Roti

Well, I’m getting more into cooking at my place in Burnaby. After a 10 day Master Cleanse, and losing a few lbs, and not having eaten anything solid for 10 days (actually 12 days since I started off with soup after the cleanse), I felt like trying my hand at some of my favourite Indian dishes.

Despite the fact that I have an Indian cookbook, I found the VahRehVah.com website very helpful - they have great free videos on making a lot of the classic Indian cuisine, not to mention videos on cuisine from Thailand, France, Mexico, et al.

This was the first time I made Sarson Ka Saag, a very traditional Indian dish from the Northern Punjab. Which has to be eaten with Makki Di Roti, which I also made. Yes, it didn’t look as good as on the video, but it was still good! There are many women who fear to make this combination of food, because it takes time and skill to make these two things well. But, I felt the urge, and was surprised that things turned out pretty good.

Thus encouraged, I made some Moong Dal (lentil soup - for non-Indian folks). apart from my cousin coming over the next day and telling me I needed to add more salt, she was quite impressed….and so was I after tasting what I had made with a final touch from my cousin.

Keep safe.

Steve
